Used cars buyers and other motorists are being warned to make sure that their vehicles' tyres are sufficiently inflated in order to save money and help the environment.
A recent survey by TyreSafe revealed one in 20 UK drivers did not know that by having under-inflated tyres they increased their cars' fuel consumption - costing them extra at the pump and creating more CO2 emissions.
Now the organisation is urging motorists to follow manufacturer guidelines so that they can avoid the added fuel usage, which has been measured at as much as 2.5 per cent.
By adjusting tyre inflation properly "significant improvements to road safety will be made and motorists could also save money through reducing fuel consumption", commented Rob Beddis, chairman of TyreSafe.
The remarks come less than a week into the launch of Tyre Safety Month and follow the release of a new tyre safety guide from the company, which has been available on TyreSafe's website since August.
